<image:title>OKOLO RASHID - OKOLO RASHID</image:title>
<image:caption>OKOLO RASHID was born in Mississippi , the daughter of sharecroppers, and grew up in America’s turbulent era of overt racism and segregation. She has, thus, been a life-long advocate of human dignity, social and economic justice, and racial harmony. After graduating from Hinds Junior College (now Hinds Community College) in 1970, among the handful of African Americans who integrated it, and earning degrees in economics and public policy at Tougaloo College and Jackson State University, respectively, Okolo has had a varied career. A community activist, organizer, and historic preservation advocate, she has worked primarily with inner-city communities and grassroots organizations, for much of her life. Okolo is currently President and Co-founder of the International Museum of Muslim Cultures (IMMC) . She is also the founder and director of IMMC’s Islamic Thought Institute . IMMC is American’s first Muslim Museum, which opened in Jackson, Mississippi, April 2001. It was through Okolo ’s vision that IMMC was born—a vision that comprises activism and an inclusive world view where human dignity, individual worth, and freedom are core values. In January 2004 Okolo and her husband, Sababu, traveled to the Republic of Mali, West Africa, where they negotiated a partnership with the Mamma Haidara Memorial Library of Timbuktu. Through this partnership they were successful in bringing back ancient manuscripts from Timbuktu for the groundbreaking international, one-of-a-kind Legacy of Timbuktu Exhibition, to Jackson, Mississippi, and America. Okolo and Sababu are very active in the Metro Jackson Islamic and interfaith communities. Okolo was featured in two books: The Face Behind the Veil: The Extraordinary Lives of Muslim Women in America , by Donna Gekrke-White in 2006; and Liberating Minds Liberating Society: Black Women in the Development of American Culture and Society, edited by Lopez D. Matthews, Jr. and Kenvi C. Phillips in 2014. Living through Mississippi’s turbulent ‘60s, it was in 1976 that Okolo and Sababu embraced Islam and have sought to live out their faith among family, friends, and neighbors, embracing many faith traditions. They have four children: a son, Ismail; three daughters: Khadijah, Maryam, and Aseelah; ten grandchildren, and a great-grandson and daughter.</image:caption>

DJ Kiran was part of The Empowerment Album, a collaboration between Desi women DJs from the US, UK, and Canada. Outside of being a DJ, Darakshan is the co-founder and co-director of Justice For Muslims Collective, a power-building organization that focuses on fighting Islamophobia and building power among Muslim communities with a focus on the Greater Washington region. <image:title>Jalá Abdul-Jabbar - Jalá Abdul-Jabbar</image:title>
<image:caption>Jala'(pronounced Jah-Lah), is a multi talented creative with a background in Singing/Performing, Interior Design/Art and expressing her art form via Nail Art. She is passionate about the creative process and the end result invoking beauty and inspiring those who are the recipients of her talents. She is originally from Houston, TX, but now resides in Atlanta, GA and has had the opportunity to live in other places such as Raleigh, NC and Phoenix/Scottsdale AZ. Jalá has been singing and performing since the age of 4. She has a background in musical theater/classical training and has several professional recordings that have been in rotation on national radio stations. She writes the majority of her songs and has written songs for other artists that have been selected and ‘placed’ on their albums. The core of her personal songs consists of R&B/Soul music and Spiritual and Inspirational songs. Her goal is to inspire and motivate through her music and have people reflect upon her lyrics. Her most recent musical accomplishment has been to participate in a Motown Themed traveling ensemble and had the opportunity to perform in Las Vegas. Musically, she is currently focused on writing songs for other up and coming artists. As far as her interior design career, she was the 1st African American(possibly the 1st Muslim) to receive the competitive Interior Design/Art scholarship at her college. Expressing herself artistically is an innate characteristic and an organic process. Since she was a little girl, she had dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and frequently rearranged furniture and accessories around her family home. Jalá has now owned her interior design business for over 10 years. Prior to that, she was employed by several fortune 500 companies including architectural firms, homebuilders, furniture showrooms, etc. Today she continues to flourish through word of mouth referrals for residential and a few commercial projects. One of the other ways Jalá expresses herself is through the Beauty/Spa industry and is a licensed Nail Technician in 2 states. A top graduate of one of the premier beauty schools in the Southeast. What inspired her to embark upon opportunities in this industry was based upon her art and design background and she found a new way to express herself through new mediums. She is able to bring a unique perspective on current nail art trends and enjoys when she is able to take her time and have ‘free range’ to create mini masterpieces.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fatima Sadaf Saied - Fatima Sadaf Saied</image:title>
<image:caption>Fatima Sadaf Saied is the Executive Director of the Muslim Women’s Organization (MWO) based in Orlando, Florida. As the daughter of Pakistani immigrants and a native Floridian, she witnessed her parents build and dedicate their lives to inclusive Islamic institutions including mosques, schools, and civic organizations throughout her childhood. Following their example, in her time at the University of Miami, she was a founder and President of a student organization that was an inclusive alternative to the existing MSA which was not open to women or diverse Islamic perspectives. After graduating from UM with a degree in Psychobiology, she started her family and dedicated her time to raising her five children. Realizing that a gap existed in women’s leadership opportunities in her local Muslim community, she was one of a group of like-minded women, that established the MWO in 2010. It is a nonprofit dedicated to building the power of and creating inclusive and welcoming spaces for Muslim women. Fatima is also on the Board of Directors of Eid Orlando, an organization dedicated to establishing family-friendly Muslim holiday celebrations. She part of the inaugural cohort for Zakat Foundation Institute’s Muslim Philanthropy and Humanitarian Studies Fellowship program at IUPUI’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She is now completing her Masters's Degree in Philanthropic studies there to build the nonprofit leadership expertise of Muslim women. She is passionate about uplifting the lives of her daughters, her team members, and her community through compassionate service.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Naimah Khalifa Bhuruku is a Haitian American Muslim woman currently residing in Prince George’s County, Maryland but native of South Jersey. She is a child of immigrant parents born and raised Muslim with her 3 sisters. Naimah is a passionate diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility practitioner, a trained facilitator, speaker and a creative enthusiast. Her passion stems from her experiences that have thrust her into environments where she did not feel like she belonged. Her own journey of seeking to belong deepened her curiosity of self and others. What she discovered on that journey is both the absence and value of empathy. “Ever since I can remember, I have always been intrigued by the life experiences that have shaped human behavior. There is something so beautiful, unique and powerful about each one of us. Our stories add so much texture to the human experience. Yet we all have a set of core fundamental needs despite our differences and that is: to be seen, to be heard, to be valued, and to belong.” Naimah invites individuals to explore more deeply who they are. She challenges them to unveil the many veils that they hide behind in order to uncover their beautiful foundational selves. She disrupts toxic narratives of I am not enough and shifts that into an I AM MORE THAN ENOUGH mindset. She facilitates conversations anchored in love of Allah, sincere curiosity, and desire to connect with our higher power. She motivates and empowers seekers of faith, seekers of spiritual awareness, seekers of practical practice and seekers who desire to internalize their belief by expanding their understanding of who Allah, our Creator is in a relatable way. She seeks to facilitate a transformation of understanding to encourage others to grow in their faith with purposeful presence, balance and radical joy. <image:title>Akanke Rasheed - Akanke Rasheed</image:title>
<image:caption>Akanke was born and raised in Atlanta, GA to a non-religious family. In her late twenties, she embraced Islam after serendipitously meeting Muslims while training to become a television producer and working on their live television show as a camera person. The conversations she heard between the host and guest about Islam intrigued her and she asked a lot of questions. They invited her to attend Friday prayer and gave her a Quran. Her love for Islam was kindled through those experiences and after reading the entire Quran the "deal was sealed" on her decision to become a Muslim. In addition to identifying with her faith, Akanke is a multi-passionate woman. She has a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Georgia State University where she studied film, television, and anthropology. She has worked as a television and radio producer and host and is also a certified life and nutrition coach as well as a voiceover artist and abstract painter. While living in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia for almost 10 years she completed advanced training in public speaking and leadership and helped other women cultivate those same skills by sponsoring two women-only Toastmasters clubs that are still thriving today. Of all the things she loves, her biggest love is for studying spirituality as the foundation for self-actualization. She believes all meaningful and sustainable personal growth and success in this world and the next must rise from a rich, solid, and loving relationship with Allah and a life that is centered around pleasing Him. She internalizes the belief that we are souls on a journey from Allah back to Allah and therefore our purpose (and our test) in life is to remember to remember Allah as we journey through life and encounter all the joys and challenges that come our way.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Chicago-native artist and educator Eve Rivera has a background in literary, performance and visual arts. In her childhood she toured as a dancer in countless productions. During Rivera's teenage years she began working in multiple libraries and delved into poetry, collage work, drawing, and painting. As she grew an appreciation for art she began a collection of inspiration in postcards, magazines, and books, which she then altered into her own pieces of Art. Rivera's appreciation for beauty and the struggle of life continued to inspire her art. Creating highly textured and conceptual work, themes of space, journey, theology, religion, and design can be observed in each individual piece. She explores emotion in its most honest forms reflecting a simplistic and timeless quality with a focus on texture and small details. Her work has been displayed in exhibitions throughout Chicago, including Englewood, Hyde Park, Pilsen, River North, Lincoln Park, and Lakeview areas. Currently Rivera lives in San Diego with her children where she teaches special education while freelancing as a documentary/portraiture photographer and a mixed media artist.</image:caption>
