Jalá Abdul-Jabbar
Jala'(pronounced Jah-Lah), is a multi talented creative with a background in Singing/Performing, Interior Design/Art and expressing her art form via Nail Art. She is passionate about the creative process and the end result invoking beauty and inspiring those who are the recipients of her talents. She is originally from Houston, TX, but now resides in Atlanta, GA and has had the opportunity to live in other places such as Raleigh, NC and Phoenix/Scottsdale AZ.
Jalá has been singing and performing since the age of 4. She has a background in musical theater/classical training and has several professional recordings that have been in rotation on national radio stations. She writes the majority of her songs and has written songs for other artists that have been selected and ‘placed’ on their albums. The core of her personal songs consists of R&B/Soul music and Spiritual and Inspirational songs. Her goal is to inspire and motivate through her music and have people reflect upon her lyrics. Her most recent musical accomplishment has been to participate in a Motown Themed traveling ensemble and had the opportunity to perform in Las Vegas. Musically, she is currently focused on writing songs for other up and coming artists.
As far as her interior design career, she was the 1st African American(possibly the 1st Muslim) to receive the competitive Interior Design/Art scholarship at her college. Expressing herself artistically is an innate characteristic and an organic process. Since she was a little girl, she had dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and frequently rearranged furniture and accessories around her family home. Jalá has now owned her interior design business for over 10 years. Prior to that, she was employed by several fortune 500 companies including architectural firms, homebuilders, furniture showrooms, etc. Today she continues to flourish through word of mouth referrals for residential and a few commercial projects.
One of the other ways Jalá expresses herself is through the Beauty/Spa industry and is a licensed Nail Technician in 2 states. A top graduate of one of the premier beauty schools in the Southeast. What inspired her to embark upon opportunities in this industry was based upon her art and design background and she found a new way to express herself through new mediums. She is able to bring a unique perspective on current nail art trends and enjoys when she is able to take her time and have ‘free range’ to create mini masterpieces.
